The Team

When I (Manuel) first dreamed about the Brooks Traverse years ago, I assumed that I would do the tour alone. It seemed impossible to find someone, who passes the sportive requirements of the expedition, has enough time on his hands and manages to bear having me as the only person to talk to for months. But in Lukas I found exactly that person. After countless alpine climbs that we did together, I can say that we form a very good team and know the other's strengths and weaknesses well enough to tackle this project together. It is great to be able to share this experience with him and I am looking forward to this shared project!

«For years I have been doing outdoor sports: It does not matter whether it is walking, skiing or cycling - I am up for everything. In 2014 I crossed the Brooks Range by bicycle during a 4000-mile bike trip. Despite terrible weather I was fascinated by the area. In the same year, I hiked 10 days alone and without any means of communication along the Hammond River in the heart of the Brooks Range - with nobody knowing where I was. While this definitely wasn't the best thing I have ever done, it was in that time that the idea of a complete traverse was born. 3 years later I returned 2017 to the area and hiked with my brother from the Anaktuvuk Pass to the Dalton Highway. It was then that I took the final decision to attempt the traverse in 2018.»

«Trailrunning, mountaineering, sports climbing, backcountry skiing or cycling - I love everything that takes place in nature. When Manuel first told me about the Brooks Traverse, I was thrilled by the idea. I read into the topic and the excitement got even bigger: I was in! I have some long distance trekking experience from 2014, when a friend and I hiked through central Mongolia for 18 days - without resupplies on the way. Moreover I did tours in Norway, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador.»
